LAUNDRY:
- Keep the laundry basket smelling fresh! Sprinkle baking powder into the bottom of the dirty washing basket to absorb any odours.

STAIN REMOVAL:
- To remove chewing gum, start by putting the garment into a plastic bag and placing it in the freezer overnight. Remove from the freezer and immediately scrape off as much gum as you can with a blunt knife.
- For make up stains, use a bar of beauty soap or shampoo. Wet the stain and rub in the soap thoroughly. Rinse with warm water.
- To remove red wine, coffee, or tea, use soda water – it will remove all of these, especially if you act immediately.
- For blood stains, soak for about one hour in salted lukewarm water. Then wash as normal.

CLEANING:
- To clean the microwave, put some slices of lemon into a glass bowl. Half-fill with water and cook on high for 3 minutes.
- To clean a dirty bath: fill the bath with water, add several cups of washing soda, and leave for two/three hours, or overnight.
- To clean taps, a small amount of shaving cream on a soft cloth is good.
- To keep the soap dish clean, when cleaning it, dip a kitchen paper in a little baby oil and wipe this all over the dish.
- To clean up broken glass, a thick slice of bread will pick up all the little broken shards of glass that scatter everywhere.

GOOD IDEAS:
- To increase the life of candles, pop them in a freezer for two/three hours before use.
- To dry wet shoes, stuff the shoes with newspaper.
- When choosing pasta shapes: penne, or macaroni are best for baked dishes; spaghetti, or linguine are best with sauces like Bolognese, tomato, or clams; tagliatelle, or farfalle are best eaten with rich sauces made with cream; fusilli, or fettucine are good with thin sauces, such as pesto, garlic or olive oil; alphabet letters, or vermicelli are ideal for adding to soups and casseroles.

- To ripen an avocado, put it in a paper bag with a banana.
