The Halcyonite

The student council this year consists of grade 9 and 10 students. For the first time in years our student council president is a woman and she has been working hard behind the scenes for the past couple of months: so far we have been meeting with the HPC (halcyon parents committee), Mr Taylor to talk about the food in the canteen and our wonderful grade reps who represent the many students in halcyon.

You may not know all of us, however, the student council has been going more public than any of the previous years. If you want to follow us on @halcyonstudentcouncil on instagram you are very welcome to. However, this year we have fully embraced the idea of publicity and have been able to utilise the school’s welcoming and non judgemental environment. We have dressed up as strawberries for the halloween catwalk this year and are planning to make a tradition for all the following councils to do so too. 

We have also begun planning events for the whole school to take part in, so far we have been trying hard to materialise international night back into halcyon so please be on the lookout for more information about when it will happen. We have also begun to structure the end of year assembly and  last day of term as we are quite tired of just sitting in the sternhall and half people talk at us every year. Furthermore, we have begun to tackle the problem with food by meeting with Mr Taylor and asking all of you guys for feedback on the food we currently have. Lastly, we are also trying to implement new things into the school, many of the ideas were suggested by the newly elected grade reps.
