On Thursday the 30th of November at 18:00, we hosted our annual school wide event: International Night. It was a large collection of dishes and foods from around the world that were brought in by the Halcyon community. Where but Halcyone can you find Eton mess, hard candies from China, and Doritos loaded with beans, cheese and beef all together?
English teacher Ms. Stoneman, who advises the Student Council, said the event was a success.
“This was my third international night,“ she said. “Each year the parents do better and better. As I am sure you know, this is Halcyon’s 10th anniversary. Each year the parents come together (except Covid of course) to put on this event for the school community. This year, I thought the music was excellent and everyone seemed very happy to be there, but why wouldn’t they be with such amazing food! My favourite savoury food was [from] South Korea and Egypt and my favourite dessert was the tiramisu from Italy!”
She said the activities room added air hockey this year, in addition to pingpong, and basketball. “And, as always, karaoke was a hit,” she said.
The event is for a good cause. This year the raffle raised £ 1,580 for the Bursary fund–exactly the same amount as last year (fun fact)!
But of course, the teachers weren’t the only ones there, so let’s hear what the students had to say about the event.
Sebastian V, the Grade 6 representative, was in charge of the raffle, so he was very involved.
“I liked international night a lot and enjoyed running the raffle and can’t wait to do it again,” he said “I also want to say a thank you to all the parents that brought in food. My favourite food was Italian 🇮🇹 pizza.” 🍕
This community run event brings together everyone of different nationalities with delicious foods. Were you there?
If so, then you’ll know what we mean.
if you weren’t, then mark your calendars for next year.
It’ll be a night to remember.
